A Greensboro native, Leon went to Duke University on an athletic scholarship, played football and went to the Rose Bowl in 1953, and graduated with a degree in Economics. He joined the Army and married Sue Norris, a Yankee from Massachusetts, in 1955.  After various business ventures, he went to work for Carling Brewing company in 1964 and was promoted faster than any other employee in the history of the company.

After a “downsizing” in 1973, he moved back to Greensboro in June of 1974 and went to work as Comptroller for a Food Service Company.

After many years of struggle with alcohol, Leon entered Fellowship Hall in 1983 and started on his road of recovery.  He became a steady and aggressive member of AA, helping numerous other men overcome their addiction.

In 1985 Leon and Sue went to a spiritual retreat at Lake Junaluska, NC that changed their lives.  There they made a commitment to Christ and found their purpose in life.  They spent many years working with AA, Al-Anon and Lay Witness Missions through the Methodist church.

In the Spring of 1993 Leon was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.  After a slow decline, Leon passed away on October 14th, 1995.
